The NOVA Laboratory of Computer Science and Informatics is a Portuguese leading research unit hosted at Departamento de Informática - Universidade Nova de Lisboa (see http://nova-lincs.di.fct.unl.pt). NOVA LINCS was awarded the highest research rating by the last (2013) FCT/MEC evaluation exercise (Excellent), among all national units focused exclusively in Computer Science and Informatics. We are currently pursuing an ambitious research program at the highest international level on principles and engineering for global software systems as a collaboration of our four groups Computer Systems, Knowledge-based Systems, Multimodal Systems and Software Systems. In the context of the 2015-20 strategic project NOVA LINCS seeks to appoint 1 post-doctoral research associate to become part of the Multimodal Systems research group.
Admission Requirements: To apply for this position, the candidate is required to have a strong computer science or informatics background at the PhD level, and a proven publication track record in one or more of the following areas: Interaction and interface design, multimedia, information retrieval, gaming, geographical information systems, image, audio and video processing. The candidates should have excellent communication skills, be able to organise and prioritise work to meet defined and plans deadlines, and be fluent in English (spoken and written). Candidates close to completion of their PhD will also be considered, provided that they will have their thesis defended when the contract is signed.
Work Objectives: In the context of the 2015-20 strategic project NOVA LINCS seeks to appoint a post-doctoral research associate to become responsible for designing multimodal and natural human computer interaction and/or multimedia information retrieval and / or tools for healthcare, creativity support, cultural heritage and media industries and / or gaming in augmented environments. We expect research outcomes of the activity to be published at premier interaction, multimedia and computer entertainment conferences and journals.
This activity integrates within a broader research line within NOVA LINCS, which targets the design and development of multimodal systems to create, access, and interact with digital content in multiple devices or scenarios. The successful candidate will become part of the Multimodal Systems research group, but is expected to be open to collaborations with other groups across the laboratory (for further information see http://nova-lincs.di.fct.unl.pt/research/multimodal-systems).
Amount of the Fellowship: monthly payment of €1.495 net (€17.940 net per year, no taxes applicable), according to FCT/MEC regulations, plus coverage of social security insurance.
