NOVA LINCS at Bridge Talks
Nuno Correia, NOVA LINCS Director, showcased successful examples of collaborations between academia, the arts and cultural heritage with impact in the preservation and creative uses of heritage, at Bridge Talks “Fusion: Bridging Art, Science and Technology” that took place at NOVA FCT on October 15.
The work presented includes a virtual tour of Museu Nacional do Traje and the Monteiro-Mor Botanical Park, and a small virtual reality exhibition featuring twelve pieces from the collection of the Palácio Nacional da Ajuda. The exhibited pieces were digitized in 3D format and processed for web viewing and real-time applications.
Ana Rita Rebelo, NOVA LINCS PhD student, presented a Virtual Reality demonstration focused on maximizing immersion and comfort in navigating small physical spaces. The demo explores “impossible spaces” in Virtual Reality (VR) to enable more immersive and natural navigation in small physical spaces. The work integrates three distinct techniques for connecting virtual rooms, allowing users to navigate multiple overlapping virtual rooms within a limited physical space. The goal is to provide a more engaging VR experience, eliminating the reliance on VR controllers and optimizing the use of available space.
Bridge Talks are events promoted by NOVA FCT Executive Education, designed to foster meaningful connections between academia and business, explore transformative ideas and build bridges that shape a sustainable and prosperous future. Each talk addresses a relevant topic, providing a platform for thought leaders to share insights and innovations. The Bridge Talks “Fusion: Bridging Art, Science and Technology” held on October 15, explored the exciting intersections of art, science, and technology through conversations and interactive sessions, an immersive art and technology exhibition.
