NOVA LINCS’s PhD student receives the FOCI Rising Star Research Award 2025

João Afonso Vilalonga, NOVA LINCS’s PhD student, received the Rising Star Research Award 2025 from the FOCI (Free and Open Communications on the Internet) community.  This award is meant to recognize and encourage emerging talent in the field of internet freedom, to acknowledge and highlight the acknowledged scientific efforts of young and promising researchers who are contributing significantly to the advancement of the field through their innovative work and ideas. This award provides a relevant recognition and support to early-career researchers, helping them to establish their place in the field and to further their careers. The distinction was awarded to him in recognition of his research on privacy protection and Internet censorship circumvention, one of the research directions in his doctoral work.
