Flávio Martins is a Ph.D. candidate at the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (UNL) working with the group of Web and Media Search (NOVA Search). He is co-advised by João Magalhães in the NOVA Laboratory for Computer Science and Informatics (NOVA LINCS) at FCT/UNL, and Jamie Callan in the Language Technologies Institute (LTI) at Carnegie Mellon University. His research interests include information retrieval and data mining with a focus on time-aware retrieval and real-time search. As part of his dissertation work he studies and builds techniques using temporal signals from multiple sources on the Web to improve search results. Previously, he has worked in information retrieval techniques and systems in the medical domain and federated search. He has already served in the Program Committees of the prestigious conferences ECIR and ACM CIKM and was a local organizer for the 10th OAIR conference.
