Susana Nascimento is Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science of Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa since 2003, and member of the Knowledge Base Systems group of NOVA LINCS. From 1999 to 2002 she was teaching assistant in the Faculty of Psychology, University of Lisboa, in the group of Statistics and Data Analysis. She holds a degree in Computer Science Engineering (1989) and a PhD in Computer Science (2002) both from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Susana Nascimento's main research topics according to the world-wide Association for Computing Machinery Computing Classification System (ACM-CCS) are: (i) Data Mining; (ii) Unsupervised learning and clustering; (iii) Machine learning algorithms. She has oriented her research towards the development of clustering methods providing more flexible algorithms with special attention on the interpretability of clustering results. Application-oriented research topics include: (a) Structuring and interpretation of research efforts from the analysis of research tendencies in Data Science; and (b) Automating the recognition and tracking of mesoscale oceanographic structures over Sea Surface Temperature (SST) images. These research topics were initiated with the support of FCT/MCTES projects, where she acted as PI, and by international collaborations. She has also served in the program committees and organization of various international conferences and peer reviewed several articles for scientific journals and conferences.
