MobiSnap – Managing Database Snapshots on a Mobile Environment

The main goal of this project is to build a framework to extend current database applications to deal with mobile clients.
The main goal of this project is to build a framework to extend current database applications to deal with mobile clients.
With the Mobisnap framework, mobile clients cache sub-sets (snapshots) of data available in central databases. Clients can query and update local cached data, thus allowing client applications to make progress autonomously even while disconnected.

Two central concepts are th corner stones of the Mobisnap architecture: mobile transactions and reservations.
Mobile transactions are mobile programs tentatively executed by the clients, and later, re-executed in the server. Only mobile transactions executed in central servers can be committed. Reservations are leased preconditions on the central server data that allow the increase of the commit rate in mobile transactions.
