Publication date: 1 de June, 2021Data analysis: A knowledge enhancing perspective
I begin with a reference to the times when J. Kepler, the Holy Roman Empire Imperial Mathematician, was publishing his observations on Tycho Brahe’s data over planetary motion (1609-1619), later referred to as three Kepler’s laws of planetary motion, the base of the modern science and scientific method. I elaborate on arriving at the third Kepler law as an example of a very successful data analysis research. I also point out to the potential approaches to the Kepler’s problem from the perspectives of contemporary mathematical statistics, data mining, and machine learning. I also give examples of less successful cases of data analysis.
Then I outline the main subjects of data analysis as a major data-driven knowledge enhancing device and point to related approaches to knowledge discovery, artificial intelligence and machine learning. My views of more update matters such as big data analytics, data science and visualization, will be articulated too. Some holes and gaps in the data analysis methodology from the knowledge modeling side will be pointed to as well.
