Publication date: 1 de June, 2021On the Use of Software Mobility and Services
The modeling of distributed computations in terms of software mobility is, in theory, very appealing, since it almost completely
abstracts the underlying network and allows for a better management of the resources that compose the execution environment.
The hostility of the Internet has, however, lead to some well-founded security concerns that cast a shadow over this paradigm.
In this talk we will introduce the issues aroused by software mobility; its advantages and the reasons for its poor utilization in real world applications.
We will also address the future of this paradigm regarding programming abstractions and runtime support.
In our opinion, mobility’s immediate future lies on its application to local area networks with single administrative domains and middleware layers
(such as grid run-time systems) where trust relationships can be established.
Ongoing work focuses on the seamlessly incorporation of mobility with service-oriented computing, another emerging technology in the middleware development field.
