Software Product Lines: Past, Present, and Future

A software product line is a family of related systems built from a
common set of core assets in a prescribed way. Organizations of all
sizes and in a wide variety of application domains have used the product
line approach to achieve breathtaking savings in cost and time to
market. Software product line engineering is emerging as a recognized
discipline in software engineering. This talk will briefly discuss how
software product lines began to grow as an idea, and cover today’s best
practices. It will also explore visions and research challenges for the
future. Along the way, some software product line success stories will
be covered.
