Publication date: 17 de November, 2023The Dynamics of Remote Software Development Teams: Understanding the Experience of Novices and the Adoption of Feedback Practices
The wide transition to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic deeply affected individuals, teams, and organizations. In the software industry, professionals had to rapidly adapt to this new situation. Although involuntary, work from home (WFH) has revolutionized work itself and the way professionals perform their activities and interact with peers. The WFH model became widely accepted and has been adopted by the majority of companies worldwide. For individuals with limited work experience, this has been probably the most challenging period of their lives as the pace of change is unprecedented. The remote model of working and learning has notably affected novice professionals. Many individuals had their first professional experience working remotely. Initially, remote work was driven by necessity and law due to the pandemic but now due to preference. The WFH brings several benefits and challenges to teams. In this talk, we discuss empirical studies that investigated the experience of novice professionals in remote work and how feedback practices are adopted by remote software development teams.
