Why logical clocks are easy
Global-scale Web services, such as Amazon.com are grounded on fast, flexible and trustworthy computer systems.
Logical clocks are a fundamental mechanism for capturing the order and relations among events in a distributed system and are at the heart of many of the distributed algorithms that power these global-scale Web services.
In their paper Why logical clocks are easy published in Communications of the ACM, Nuno Preguiça, NOVA LINCS researcher from Computer Systems Group, and Carlos Baquero (INESC Tec) overview the existing main proposals of Logical Clocks, including contributions from the authors currently being used in NoSQL Riak database.
