NOVA LINCS

David Semedo

David Semedo is an Assistant Professor at FCT NOVA, and integrated research member at NOVA LINCS. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science (2020), and his research focuses on deep learning and machine learning approaches for Multimedia Understanding. He has been involved in multiple national and international projects (e.g., Amazon Alexa Taskbot Challenge, CMU-Portugal iFetch, H2020 COGNITUS) and industry collaborations. He has 25+ peer-reviewed publications, including 6 CORE A* and 2 CORE A. In terms of supervisions, he has 3 on-going PhD, and 23 MSc supervisions (3 on-going). He has been an Area Chair (ACM MM) and regular technical program committee member at top-tier conferences and journals: ACM Multimedia, ACL, EMNLP, AAAI, IJCAI, and ACM TOMM. He was a co-advisor of the TWIZ team, that got the 1st prize in the 2023 AlexaPrize Taskbot challenge. His submitted system got the Distinctive mention at the NewsImages from the MediaEval Benchmarking Initiative for Multimedia Evaluation (MediaEval 2021).
